Narrow Body Airliners
Large Aircraft, Long Range Flights, Large Groups
To distinguish jet aircraft that might be simply described as 'airliners, the terms narrow body and wide body are used. A narrow-body aircraft is an airliner with a fuselage aircraft cabin diameter typically of 3 to 4 metres (10 to 13 ft), and airline seat arranged 2 to 6 abreast. There is a single aisle as opposed to the two passenger aisles of a wide body airliner.
Narrow Body Airliners
Narrow Body Aircraft is a term used to distinguish a type of airliner that has a single aisle from its twin aisle Wide Body counterpart. The cabin size is typically 3 to 4m (10 to 13ft) wide and seating can be arranged from 2 to 6 abreast configuration, also providing enough room to stand and walk around. Passengers can enjoy a full range of amenities from a full galley offering both hot and cold food, a private lavatory, in-flight entertainment and generous sized baggage compartments. Flight attendants are available to enhance the passenger experience and maintain safety.
There are many types of Narrow Body Airliners available including the Airbus A319 manufactured by Airbus Industrie (there is also the Airbus A320). The A319 is part of the A320 family with a shortened fuselage but is able to carry the same fuel capacity. Four engines are available; the 23,040ibf V2522-A5 and 24,800ibf V2527M-A5 from IAE, or the 22,000lbf CFM56-5B/A and 27,000lbf CFM56-5B7. The airliner has a range of 6,700 km (3,600nm), a maximum altitude of 31,000ft at speeds between 828 to 871km/h. The cabin is 78ft long, 12.2ft wide and 7.4ft high with a total cabin volume of 5,900cu ft and can accommodate up to 156 passengers in a one class configuration.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes competitor to the A319 is the Boeing 737-700, the first of the ‘Next Generation’ series. Only one engine option is available, the CFM International CFM56-7 series that produces 24,200lbf of thrust each. The 737-700 flies between 828-876 km/h with a maximum ceiling height of 41,000 ft. It seats 126 passengers in a typical two class layout or up to 149 in all economy configuration, the cabin size is 79.2ft long, 11.7ft wide and 7ft high with a total cabin volume of 5,390cu ft.
Other Boeing Airliners include the 767, the 727 and the 757; this jet is powered by Rolls-Royce RB211-535C turbofan engines producing of 37,400lbf of thrust or the Pratt & Whitney PW2037 36,600lbf thrust engine. This airliner has a maximum range of 7,222 km (3,900 nm) and 850 km/h at cruise altitude of 35,000ft. The cabin is 118.4ft long and 11.6ft wide and is certified to carry up to 228 passengers in a one class configuration.
